The club is hosted by Julie Hall in the wonderful British Library Business and IP Centre next to St. Pancras.</p>
<p>Each month we feature a new business topic to discuss and engage with each other about. We have chosen this format because quite honestly, we’re tired of the traditional type of networking that is out there and think it’s time for a change.</p>
<p>The Business Club meeting features an extension of that month&#8217;s SPOTLIGHT topic. In January our SPOTLIGHT topic is all about how to optimise your website to get results</p>
<h2>This month&#8217;s meeting topic:How connect with your customer through your website</h2>
<p>Most people create their website, get it live and then don&#8217;t look at it for months at a time.  A few months ago, we did a session on calls to action on your website, but this time we are going to focus on how to create a website that keeps people engaged and gives them what they want.  We&#8217;ll look at blogs, social engagement, community development, layout and navigation.  We&#8217;ll discuss what makes a website work from a content perspective, not just from a visual perspective.  If you come along you&#8217;ll have an opportunity to look at and discuss your website in particular in your breakout group and get feedback and ideas that you can take back and implement straight away.</p>
<h2>What to expect</h2>
<p>With straight talking and clear training, we&#8217;ll show you what really works. You will walk out with your own action packed, focused marketing strategy that you can take away with you and implement straight away.</p>

During this workshop, you will create your own website using WordPress.  WordPress is a blogging platform that is used by people all over the world to manage their websites and blogs &#8211; and also the platform that Women Unlimited is built on!<span id="more-1445"></span></p>
<h2>Please note this workshop is open to both men and women.</h2>
<p>We will provide the platform for you to work on for the day, or if you would prefer to work on your own website, we can upload wordpress to your webspace or provide hosting with installation for a fantastic price.  You choose the package that is right for you.  So when you come along on the day you are able to get right into the fun stuff of building your website.</p>
<p>We will help you define your menu, choose your design, show you how to change your designs, how to add functionality without ever needing to get your hands dirty with the code.</p>
<p>WordPress workshop. We  will take you through the process of creating a website or blog using WordPress.  It is an incredibly flexible system that gives you the chance to manage and update your own website at will.  This is the 6th time we’ve run this workshop and you can see some of the fantastic sites that have been created by some of our previous delegates below.</p>
<h2>What you will NOT learn:</h2>
<p>Firstly, (and this is really important), you will NOT be learning how to write html or coding language.  WordPress has an easy to use interface, everything is available to you through an easy to use administration panel. Using plugins and widget, WordPress takes all the tricky coding out of your hands.</p>
<p>We specialise in<strong> making technology simple </strong>and will be on hand through the whole day to show you and assist you.  This is a practical course in the extreme in that at the end of the 6 hours you will have your own website that you can be proud of.  That will look professional, that will be easy to update (as WordPress will be your content management system), and will be Google friendly!  What more could you ask for?!</p>

<h2>How will it work?</h2>
<p>You can bring your own laptop to the workshop or use the computers onsite.  We will provide you with all the software that you need and the templates that you will be using.  For the purposes of this workshop, you will need to use the templates that we have provided as they have been chosen for their quality and suitability for business sites.  However, we will direct you to other sites where you can choose from thousands of other designs (most of them free!)</p>
<h2>What you will need to have in place</h2>
<p>All of these things  listed are necessary, but we are happy to talk you through the requirements and how to get them on a one to one basis with each person who books on the course.</p>
<p><strong>Hosting:</strong> You will need to have hosting in place if you want to work on your own website and not just any hosting, you need Linux hosting with a MySQL database. Typically this costs about £5 per month (and we are offering this as an option at £50 per annum). We will provide a working wordpress installation for you to work on during the workshop.</p>
<p><strong>Laptop:</strong> If you bring your own, please make sure you have a wifi connection.</p>
<p><strong>Domain: </strong>Not explicitly necessary to build the website, but your site can&#8217;t go live without a name.  We can also go through how to connect your domain to your hosting company, set up your emails etc &#8211; we recommend <a href="http://www.ukreg.com">UKreg </a>for domain purchasing.  Never let your web developer buy your domain as you are likely to pay over the market rate and this will become one of your most important assets and you want to make sure you own it completely.</p>
<p><strong>Images</strong>: As part of the workshop we will show you were to find images, but will not be able to spend a lot of time on this.  If you would like to have specific images on your site, we recommend you purchase or source them in advance.  Best site for this is <a href="http://www.istockphoto.com">http://www.istockphoto.com</a></p>
<p><strong>Content: </strong>Ideally you will have your own content to add to the site.  But don&#8217;t it stop you if you don&#8217;t &#8211; we will provide you with dummy text that you can change at any time.</p>

<blockquote><p>Not to sound melodramatic, but taking the &#8216;<a href="http://www.women-unlimited.co.uk/wordpress-workshop">Build your own website or blog in WordPress</a>&#8216; course with Women Unlimited was seriously like a weight being lifted off my chest. I&#8217;d had experience running WordPress sites before, but invariably ended up wasting hours trying to figure out what became obvious in a matter of minutes on the course. In just one day, Julie and Viv managed to give me the tools to now be able to create and manage WordPress sites independently. Unlike other courses where info is piecemeal and there&#8217;s a DVD to buy at the end, Women Unlimited&#8217;s approach is to give you everything they can &#8211; as well as free support phone calls and webinars &#8211; to make sure you&#8217;re needs have been tailored to. Basically, I couldn&#8217;t recommend it more and just wish I&#8217;d seen the course sooner.</p>

Emma is a multi-talented woman&#8230; she is the founder of Enterprise Nation and author of ‘Spare Room Start Up’, working 5 -9, Go Global AND has a new book being released November. She is also the CEO of <a href="http://http://www.startupbritain.org/">Startup Britain</a> and the Founder of Bitsy, a small business market place.</p>
<p>Emma Jones started her first business at the age of 27 from her spare room in Manchester and successfully sold it 2 years later to Tenon Group plc. This experience provided the inspiration for Emma’s next venture, Enterprise Nation which launched in January 2006. Since then, Emma has not looked back. Enterprise Nation is evolving to help even more would-be entrepreneurs. It has launched a new website Bitsy (<a href="http://www.bitsythis.com">www.bitsythis.com</a>), the web&#8217;s friendliest B2B marketplace, and Brightword Publishing (<a href="http://www.brightwordpublishing.com">www.brightwordpublishing.com</a>), a joint-venture between Enterprise Nation, Harriman House and serial entrepreneur Doug Richard. Brightword produces books, kits and digital products for the small business market. Finally earlier this year, Emma became co-founder and CEO of Startup Britain.</p>

We have chosen this format because quite honestly, we&#8217;re tired of the traditional type of networking that is out there and think it&#8217;s time for a change. We are building a network of female entrepreneurs who are a bit braver, a bit bolder and who want to engage with other entrepreneurs that are just like them. The Moxie Club is fun AND will really make you think about your business in a different way. If we don&#8217;t give you an A Ha! moment in every meeting, quite frankly, we haven&#8217;t done our job.</p>

<p>Now, here&#8217;s the thing&#8230; this is not a sales network &#8212; it&#8217;s a trust network. It&#8217;s a network that supports each other, promotes each other, and learns together. By sharing your challenges and your successes, you&#8217;ll be amazed at how quickly you get to know each other. You&#8217;ll get more out of listening to 15 minutes of someone talking about their business at a Moxie Club event than you will out of an hour at a 1 to 1. Each month we build on that connection and develop relationships that will last you a lifetime.</p>
<p>Many women join networking groups because they feel the need for a peer network. Here we have created a peer network that you can be completely open and honest with. You may have noticed, that when you are at a traditional networking event, that everyone&#8217;s business is doing great&#8230; and it all feels like you&#8217;re hearing the same old stuff every time. At the Women Unlimited business club we cut through the proverbial crap and talk about business in a real way. We embrace our challenges and help each other find solutions. You can share as little or as much as you want and know that you will get great advice and support from the other women in the group. It&#8217;s a great way to move your business forward and generate some fantastic ideas.</p>
<h2>What do you get out of it?</h2>
<p>You&#8217;ll get a network of friends and peers that you can turn to comfortably for advice, for opportunities, for celebration.   You&#8217;ll get new insight into different ways that you can market your business.  You&#8217;ll get the opportunity to get out fire fighting mode in your business and spend time working on your business, not just in it.</p>
<p>Honestly, you won&#8217;t know until you try it, but I can promise you, once you&#8217;ve been to a Moxie Club, you&#8217;ll wonder how you ever did without it.</p>
<h2>This month’s topic: Calls to Action</h2>
<p>Each month is different and we will focus on a different business topic or exercise. The Moxie Club is a chance to work on your business, rather than in it!</p>
<p>Most of us operate in relatively competitive marketplaces. Even if we are not competing on products, we are competing on the customer’s wallet. So how can you make your customers decide to buy from you? you’ll have a chance to work on it directly in the session. It’s Fun. It’s Sassy. It’s networking with a Twist. It’s the Moxie Club.</p>

At Women Unlimited I use Twitter to post articles, engage with friends / contacts and promote our events and workshops.  And it works!  So I&#8217;ve put together this mini workshop to share with you all my tricks, tips and tools on how to use Twitter in your business.</p>
