THE REPRESENTATION of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) women in social enterprises was boosted by new report from the Government Equalities Office.

Social Enterprise: Making it work for black, Asian and minority ethnic women was published to find new ways to encourage and support BAME women into starting social enterprises to alleviate poverty and regenerate neighbourhoods and community cohesion.

Although there are over 55,000 social enterprises in the UK contributing £8.4 billion pounds to the UK economy, BAME women are still underrepresented. It is hoped increasing the number of BAME women starting up social enterprises will enable ethnic minority women to become more economically independent and participate more in communities.
