January 31, 2010, Richmond. The Orange Tree Theatre is hosting an exciting new comedy show on 31st January to raise funds for local charity, The New Victoria Medical Foundation, introducing Richmond audiences to the best of female comedy.

The event will feature a host of hilarious female talent from Funny Women, the Richmond based promoter of female comedy, best known for its annual new talent competition, the Funny Women Awards.  Headlined by Jan Ravens, from BBC’s Dead Ringers, and hosted by Carrie Quinlan of BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz, the show will include this year’s Funny Women Awards winner, Miss London, described as comedy’s ‘Little Miss Dynamite’.

The New Victoria Medical Foundation, also based in Richmond, provides life enhancing medical support for those in most need – from Mobility Aids for Children to Accessible Transport and Medical Treatment, through to Medical Bursaries for young people destined to become the doctors of the future. Funds raised from this fabulous event will help to provide support, counselling and complementary therapies to those affected by breast cancer.

“Breast cancer touches us all and just two days before the semi finals of our annual Funny Women Awards back in September, one of the contestants was diagnosed,” explains Funny Women producer, Lynne Parker.  “She bravely went on to perform in the show and, I am delighted to report, make a complete recovery following surgery.  We want to honour her and all the other women locally who have undergone the same experience, by putting on this fundraising show in our home town of Richmond.”

This event promises to be a night of sharp and sassy comedy, and a chance to escape the winter blues whilst supporting a good cause.  Funds raised on the night from the box office and a raffle will be donated to a breast cancer charity by The New Victoria Medical Foundation.
