March 21st, 2012. Full day workshop.

A book is a fantastic ambassador for your business but in order to be effective, it must be out there working for you. A successful book that actually sells copies will enhance your business brand and also boost your confidence as well as bringing you more clients. There are specific tactics that you can use in launching your book and then marketing it over time to create a successful sales campaign. Many of these cost time but not money so they are within everyone’s grasp. It’s best to start your marketing campaign before the book is ready for launch as you will have an audience ready to buy it immediately, but it’s never too late to start.
This workshop is for people wanting to launch, market and sell their own book. It is focussed on non-fiction books but the principles also apply to fiction as well. It is presented by Joanna Penn, author of 3 non-fiction books and the Amazon bestselling novel, Pentecost. Joanna’s site, www.TheCreativePenn.com was voted one of the Top 10 Blogs for Writers and helps people write, publish and market their books. She brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to this process. No hype, just information that works.

Joanna says “Four years ago, I published my first book without knowing anything about marketing. I put all the work into writing and publishing and then sold practically no copies. I was heartbroken and determined that it would never happen again. I learned everything I could about marketing and when I launched Pentecost it went straight up the Amazon charts and has continued in the bestseller ranks for the last 7 months selling over 14,000 copies.”

What you will learn:

• How to prepare your book launch in advance in order to make the most of the initial sales period. The importance of relationship marketing.
• A breakdown of launch activities for you to craft your own personalized version
• Tips and tricks for Amazon sales pages. How to use categories, tags, reviews and the description as well as your Amazon author page to maximize results
• How to sell your book from your own site with a shopping cart. Pros and cons of physical distribution and sales. Selling in person and from the stage.
• The criticality of book reviews, how to ask for them and how to use them as well as review sites like Goodreads & Shelfari
• The pros and cons of paid advertising, Traditional PR, media releases, TV and radio
• How to use blogging and social networking specifically for book marketing purposes
• Multimedia marketing through video and audio
• Generating multiple streams of income from your book. How to develop products off the back end.

Why you should come to this workshop:

• If you are writing a book and you want to prepare for your launch and marketing process in order to maximize your chances of sales success.
• If you have a book already but you would like to learn about marketing and improve your sales

But don’t take our word for it!

Joanna Penn is an international speaker on writing, publishing and marketing. Here are some testimonials from her other events held in Australia and Bali.

“Joanna’s talk on creating your author platform to market your books, even if you haven’t written one yet, was nothing short of inspirational. Her presentation was delivered so enthusiastically that it was impossible not to be engaged and excited about the possibilities to reach a dramatically wider audience via social media and online marketing. From those new to the social media buzz there were many questions about twittering and blogging and why one would even do that! Joanna swiftly responded to most questions thrown at her, only limited by the lack of time available.” From Gold Coast Writer’s Association Monthly Newsletter, March 2010.

“I have just spent $2000 on a 3 day marketing intensive and feel like I got just as much out of 1.5 hours listening to Joanna’s tips on how to be an author. Great! Can’t wait to get started.” Nirala Jacobi, Natural Healthcare

“As an already published author I felt the information provided went above and beyond my expectations. Learning more about branding was fantastic. I feel I have received the guidance I needed to take the two areas of my life which I am passionate about and discover some real learning techniques to build and see a vision for my future author endeavours. Fantastic!” Jen Gallagher, Essential Oil Goddess, August 2010

  1. Hi Julie.

It’s – as usual – very tempting to come…but I don’t live in the UK. So, why don’t you create a membership site of the event, aftzer the event? You could record the the presenation on video…You could charge a fee and have a even broader audience. In the end, I am reading this post in the Internet, am I not?
You always organize nice events, it seems. I would also prefer a personal meeting, if possible, as I said. So make that membership site as “human” as you can. And yes, why not publishing a book with the same content, too?

  2. That’s a great suggestion of @Alessandro. My wife is in the midst of creating a book, but she is a better writer than a marketer, so would really benefit from an online course as suggested. Not practical to attend from our part of the world though.

  3. I agree with you. Selling books is a good business. You’re not only making money but you’re also helping enthusiastic people in getting what they wanted to have and learn. There is another way of selling books. Its through amazon kindle. With kindle your ebooks will be accessible anywhere.

  4. This is going to be an interesting full day workshop, hope to hear an update for this even here. Just hoping though :)

  5. I will pass this on to people that may be interesting and able to attend.

  6. Like some of the others commenting, I only regret that I don’t live in the UK. This looks very interesting, and some of the feedback you have had is incredible! Inspiring for women trying to make their way in business.

    Thanks
    Kelly

  7. Lovely share Julie Hall. I’ve writen my book some years ago, and still looking to sell it, thanks to you I sold 5 copies now! Thanks again!

  8. Newbie writers do not know the do’s and dont’s in advertising books, so a good lecture that is readily available (through net) for someone outside UK boundaries would be greatly appreciated!

  9. I’ve got an ebook about audio mastering, and I included many useful tips for novice audio gurus. I kept the price low because my idea was to spread the word, not making money, but anyway, a couple of bucks are useful, always.
